America Is In The Heart by Carlos Bulosan

Filed under: Books to Read @ 6:34 pm

Anyone who reads this book cannot come away unmoved–cannot come away unchanged–cannot come away unenlightened.

Carlos Bulosan was born in 1913 in Pangasinan, in Luzon, in the Philippines. He was the son of farmer.

The first few chapters of the book detail his life in the Phillippines, working on a farm, plowing with a carabao and struggling with his family to make a living. After a difficult childhood, he immigrated to the United States in 1930.

Mr. Bulosan tells of the struggles, prejudice and injustice suffered by he and other pinoys as they manage to eke out a living in their new country. Carlos worked in the fisheries in the Northwest for a time. He eventually wound up in California where he did migrant work for many years.

Few books detail the struggle of migrant workers and immigrants as well as this book. If you read The Grapes of Wrath-compound the situations, add a big helping of racism, changes the characters to brown and you might get close to the meat of the book.

This first hand account of the farm worker in California in the 30s and 40s is often brutal. It reminds the reader of recent events where the victim was too brown, too black, too poor or any of the above and in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Parallel to this struggle is the struggle of the Mexican-American. To the scholar and to those who lived the farm worker experience, the reading will make the similarities apparent. His participation in attempts to unionize the workers in that era is one example.

The book gives the reader a glimpse of the prejudice apparent during his era. Some stores in California, at the time, had signs that read, “Dogs and Filipinos not allowed.”

The book shows the ugly underbelly of America. Carlos suffered beatings, threats and ill health due mainly or in part to his struggle in labor. Yet, through the years, Mr. Bulosan maintained a strong love for America. In fact, the book ends with a statement that no one could destroy his faith in America.

For those interested in the history of the Asian-American experience, for those who want to understand the past and for those who just love a great book-American Is In The Heart is for them.

Gene Smith is a writer from West Virginia. He spent 20 years in the Navy where he experienced the association of many Filipinos, their stories and an occasional sign that read, “Sailors and Dogs Keep Off The Grass.”

So You Wrote an E-book… Now What?

Filed under: Books to Read @ 1:30 am

E-books are one hot marketing tool. For those of you
who don’t get out much, an e-book is basically a
collection of HTML documents that have been compiled
into an executable (.exe) file. The concept is that of
an electronic book that can be downloaded, read page
by page, and passed around easily online.

Some e-books are sold where as others are given
away freely. Those who download free e-books are
encouraged to give them away to their friends or
business associates. The “give away” part is what
makes e-books such a powerful marketing tool. Also
known as viral marketing, when done right your book
can be passed around to thousands of people all
over the world.

For this reason it is my opinion that e-books
work best when there is no charge involved.
Think about it: Who doesn’t like getting
something for free? So if you’ve been thinking of jumping
on the “e-book bandwagon” my advice
is to give it away and let it do what it does
best: Generate traffic to your website.

Once your book is written, it has to get out into
the mainstream of the Internet. You need to heavily
market and promote the book yourself to get the ball rolling
so it can do its magic. This is where a lot of folks get stumped.

I have written two e-books myself, so I’ve done a
lot of research and have found out what works
and what doesn’t. If you have included any
other websites in the book, your first step
is to contact their owners and let them know about it.
Also, tell them it would be great if they offer the
book from their site or mention it in their newsletter.
Most will be happy to comply; since their names are in the
book, they benefit from promoting it as well.

If you have sold banner ads in the e-book (which
is a great idea), make sure you supply your
advertisers with text link ads and/or graphics they
can use to help get the word out. Your job is to make it
as easy as possible for them “to pass the word.”
This is viral marketing at its finest.

Your next step should be to add a page on your
site where visitors can download the book. If
you have any graphic skills at all, whip up
a book cover to add along with a description
that stresses the benefits they’ll receive from
reading it. If the book’s content is good (and it
should for all of this to work right!), you
will soon receive feedback in the form of compliments.
Make sure you put them on this page as well.
Testimonials are very powerful.

If you publish an ezine you can use the book
as a bonus for your subscribers.

There are many other ways to promote your new
book. Contact ezine publishers that you think
would be interested in your subject matter
and send them an e-mail stating how nice it
would be if they mentioned it to their readers.
Most publishers are always looking for content
and will be happy to help out.

Some websites do e-book reviews and then publish
them online or in their newsletters. Here are a
few to get you started:

ZD Net 4 Star Review

For reviews of e-books that relate to Net
marketing send them to Lee Benson
mailto:lee@c…

E-book Junction- Linda does reviews for her
ezine send to mailto:linda@a…

There are also sites on the Net that house
e-books of all types and function as e-book
libraries. Your book can be submitted to any
of the following;

E-book Net

http://www.ebooknet.com/

Carver’s E-book Library

http://carver.bizland.com/submit.htm

Success Library

http://allaboutsuccess.com/successlibrary.htm

EbooksNBytes

Ebook Palace

Stealth Promotions

http://www.stealthpromotions.com/e-library.htm

The E-book Directory

http://www.ebookdirectory.com/addebook.html

If you do a search on the major search engines
you’re sure to find many more e-book libraries
you can submit to.

E-book discussion lists are two way communication
where you can announce your book once you
subscribe. Some are;

E-book Chat

mailto:anebookchat-subscribe@onelist.com

E-book News

mailto:ebook-news-subscribe@onelist.com

E-book Talk

mailto:ebook_talk-subscribe@onelist.com

Another tip is to visit any of the websites
that house free software and submit your book
to them. Most include e-books, since they
are .exe files. Do a search and you’ll find these
sites by the thousands. There is free software
that can submit your e-book to 50 sites
in one shot: Go to
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/program/ssubmit.htm
and download “Soft Submit” which will upload
your book to 50 sites at once.

Don’t forget about including the download URL
in your signature file. You are using one,
right? I thought so. You could always write
a press release about your e-book and e-mail
it to the media. Discussion boards are another
great outlet but don’t post inappropriately.
If you have the book in your sig file you could
just post a comment or answer a question and
your signature line will do the rest.

Use your imagination and you’ll find hundreds
of ways to utilize your e-book in your marketing
campaign. After all, this is one viral infection
you want everyone to catch!

The truth about paid autosurfs

Filed under: Books to Read @ 8:45 pm

“Yeah, I’m a scammer! I know that people like to be lied, cheated and told that they can earn fortunes by doing nothing. And they do help ME make fortunes, to fulfil my dreams. Could you say that I’m doing something wrong? No! I just take advantage off greedy people and sell them dreams. That’s what I am, I’m not a bad person; I’m just a business man, a dreams seller!”

That are the starting lines of a shocking e-book that tends to become one of the most best sold e-books regarding online investments.

The paradox is that this book is not about investments or about earning money online and it’s the opposite of it in a strange way.

The book reveals the journey a site admin made from simple web designer to a successful scammer in the online investments industry.

The Truth About Paid Autosurfs is the most shocking e-book I’ve read and the story takes you from your seat in front of the computer and allows you to enter inside the complicated life of internet investment sites.

The main character of the book is the autosurfs admin that reveals all the details of how he started his first site, how he advertised it, how he convinced people to invest, how he cheated and scammed them; how he raised an empire of internet scam sites (not only autosurfs but also hyips and other type of piramid/ponzy schemes)

“The Truth About Paid Autosurfs” is just the first e-book from an entire e-book series published online on http://www.mytruthrevealed.com

The e-book series is called “My Truth Revealed. The truth about easy money” and the first e-book i(The truth About Paid Autosurfs) is already launched. Next launch programmed is the launch of “The truth about hyips”

The author of the e-book series is an anonymous non-English speaking author but the book is impressive in its story not in the language used. He took the story from a real autosurf admin that sold him his story for a cut in the profits.

What is amazing is that the admin tells us al about his actions and about his dreams that came true: to have his own home on a paradise island; and how he managed to fulfil his dreams by scamming people.

His direct and arrogant words make you hate him sometime but he manages to make you respect him for having the courage to fulfil his dreams, no matter the middles.

The e-book is on sale on My Truth Revealed website (http://www.mytruthrevealed.com) at the price of $24.99 and the payments options are credit/debit card trough 2checkout or e-gold.

For interested resellers the site has also an affiliate area.

Hiring a Freelance Writer to Produce Your Ebook

Filed under: Books to Read @ 7:53 pm

The ebook market on eBay has changed a little over the last few years. The bad news for those interested in selling ebooks is that they will be facing more competition for sales than previous “generations” of sellers. The good news, however, is that consumers are now familiar and comfortable with the idea of purchasing digital information and the number of potential buyers is increasing.

These two factors have led many in the ebook selling field to realize that one key to success is offering never-before-seen products on eBay. By providing new ebooks to a market segment increasingly apt to purchase new quality information, sellers can still reap considerable profits.

Finding new material has become increasingly difficult, though certainly not impossible. It does take a talent and skills to find new ebooks with master resale rights available, however. One trying to find ebooks written by others to use for resale on eBay need to be able to spot potential winners quickly and to get them ready for market in record time. “Staying ahead of the curve” can produce awesome results, but it does require speed and efficiency. It also means that a product’s “shelf life” will likely be short as others pick up on the new information and offer it at auction, too.

This has led many savvy ebook sellers to produce their own ebooks. They understand the market and its needs and can envision the perfect ebook to exploit underserved niches. Writing your own ebook can produce spectacular sales and provides you with the opportunity to control, to a large extent, the supply of the product and to differentiate yourself from the slew of other ebook sellers.

Unfortunately, writing your own material requires significant expenditure of time and effort. It also requires solid writing skills. Not all ebook sellers have the necessary time, patience and skills to produce the winning ebooks they can visualize. As such, many expert sellers seek out freelance writers to produce ebooks for them.

A quality freelancer can produce the ebook you need to your specifications. Generally, talented freelance writers work very quickly and do not require extensive direction to produce the kind of materials a smart seller needs. There is, of course, an expense involved, but the cost of hiring the freelancer to produce the product can be easily recouped by a successful ebook sales campaign.

A custom ebook can put a seller in a fantastic position. They will own all rights to the ebook, allowing them to initially exploit demand for the information itself. When the seller believes the time is right, they can then offer the now already-successful product to other ebook sellers along with master resale rights. This enables you to exploit initial consumer demand and subsequent reseller demand!

Do you think you could grab a significant share of one or more niches within the eBay ebook market if you had a custom-designed ebook that you knew met otherwise underserved demand? If so, it may be time to consider hiring a freelance author to build your ebook to match your needs. The end result will be a product uniquely yours that can produce mammoth sales numbers.

Tell Them Where To Go

Filed under: Books to Read @ 1:44 am

Imagine you’re doing some research on the internet.

Now imagine you’ve found a site that says it has the kind of
information you’re looking for only …all the information
is contained on other pages of the site and the page you’ve
found doesn’t provide any links to those pages.

Now, how valuable would that site be to you?

This is a rhetorical question since we all recognize the value
of putting links to the other pages on our site where our
visitors can find them easily.

But how about e-books?

Imagine you’ve found an e-book that holds a lot of valuable
information. The e-book has more than 200 pages of information
that has been split into logical sections for ease of use
however … there is no Table of Contents or Index contained in the e-book.

If this is a PDF e-book and you know the right search term, you
may be able to do a search and find what you’re looking for. But
if it’s not a PDF e-book, you have no way of finding the
information except by clicking through every page.

So how valuable is this e-book?

This is not a rhetorical question since many e-books are
created with no Index or Table of Contents.

Sure, you can take notes so you’ll know where things are. Then
you can either go straight to that page or click that many
times.

But wouldn’t it make more sense for the author to have provided
either a Table of Contents or an Index? Would you buy a hard
copy reference book that didn’t provide 1 or both of these
things?

If you are an e-book author and create e-books that contains
more than a few pages (few is a ambiguous term so let’s say 20
pages), then you should provide either an Index or Table of
Contents for your readers.

If you create PDF e-books which are the “in thing” right now and
you use MSWord to write them, then making an Index or Table of
Contents is not that difficult. All you have to do is:

  1. As you write you’re
e-book, make every main section title a “Heading 1.”
  2. If you have
subsections you would like contained in the Table of Contents,
then make every subsection title a “Heading 2.”
  3. If you have
subsections within your “Heading 2″ subsections, you can make
those subsection titles a “Heading 3.”
  4. After you’ve finished
writing the content and saving, place your cursor at the
location where you would like your Index or Table of Contents.
  5. Click on “Insert” in
    the menu bar.
  6. Go to “References”
and select “Index and Tables … .”
  7. Click either the
“Index” or “Table of Contents” tab.
  8. Select the formatting
options you want and click “OK.”

You’ve just created a
Table of Contents. True, it doesn’t provide hyperlinks but at
least the reader can see where things are located and can get to
them easily.

You can play around with how you want to format your Index or
Table of Content until you find the one you like best. Just
remember to delete all the extra ones since MSWord doesn’t
overwrite, it just keeps adding them.

(Side Note - If you discover you need to add new sections
or subsections to your e-book, you’ll have to delete the Table
of Contents and recreate it after you’ve made your additions.)

If you’re creating your e-books in .exe format, making an Index
or Table of Contents is like creating a site menu. You have the
option of putting it on a separate page, putting it on every
page or both. I also suggest that you use hyperlinks in your
Index or Table of Contents since the reader cannot get to pages
easily unless you do. Also, if you decide to put it on a
separate page, you’ll want to provide a link to your Index or
Table of Contents on every page of your e-book.

Making either an Index or a Table of Contents does make a little
more work for e-book creators but it also makes the e-books more
user friendly.

So as you create your e-books, tell your readers where to go
because having quality information that is easy to find can help
build your reputation as a “good” e-book author.
